2014 Winter Olympics

98 Events, 15 Sport disciplines, and it all started on the 7^th of February 2014 and ran till the last events and closing ceremony on the 23^rd February 2014.

The Russian Federation walked away with 13 gold, 11 silver and 9 bronze medals, with Norway in second place with 11, 5 and 10 respectively. Third place went to Canada with 10 gold, 10 silver and 5 bronze medals. USA did finish with a higher medal count, but with one less gold than Canada, so it pushed them to fourth. Since it was announced way back in July 2007, the Sochi Organisation Commitee (SOC) had been hard at work to bring everything together for the 2014 Winter Olympics. From the construction of the world class Olympic Park in the Imeretinsky Valley on the coast of the Black Sea, to the Fisht Olympic Stadium and the Games' indoor venues all situated so that it's all within walking distance - and don't forget the snow events venues at Krasnaya Polyana.

With the budget expanding to over US$51 million, this was one of the most expensive Olympics in history, surpassing the US$44 million of the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics.

But despite all the controvesy regarding the budget overruns and security issues, all the winter sporting codes that took place during the event definitely made it, by far, one of the best Winter Olympics ever!
